2010 Horse Show Rules
1. All shows are to be governed according to the AMHR Rule Book, unless otherwise stated in these rules or our bylaws. These rules will be at all the shows at the entry booth.
 
2. Miniature horses and donkeys must be 38" and under. Horses and donkeys do not have to have registry with any national registry.
 
3. In the event a complaint verbal or written is received challenging the height of a horse or donkey, the horse or donkey in question will be measured by at least 2 board members and if the horse or donkey is over 38” it will be banned from shows and any and all points will be forfeited.
 
4. All State Miniature Horse and Donkey Club or anyone officially associated with the show individually or collectable will not be responsible for any accidents or injury to persons, animals or equipment and will not be responsible for the loss of any personal property. Poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. The show committee reserves the right to eject anyone demonstrating hostile behavior toward judges or other participants, members, and spectators. The show committee will address the issue, and if need be, escort the individual from the show grounds.
 
5. Coggins: All horses and donkeys must have proof of a current negative Coggins test dated within 1 year of show in question. Coggins will be verified at the entry booth prior to showing. Any exhibitor unable to provide proof of current Coggins defined above will be required to remove the horse or donkeys from the show grounds. Foals 6 months or younger may show under their Dam's negative Coggins. It will be required to have a copy of your current Coggins kept on file.
 
6.  Definitions: Adult: 18 years and older.          Youth: 11- 17 years of age.          Pee Wee: 10 years and younger.
 
7. Pee wee age participants are eligible to move to the youth division and compete only with their parent’s approval and 1 year of show experience and will be ineligible to return to the pee wee division.
 
8. Horse/Exhibitor Information Forms: This form needs completed only one time, to be kept on file for the horse show season.
 
9. Class Entry Forms: Forms must be completely filled out. Exhibitors are responsible for their own errors in preparation of entry form.
 
10. Entry Fees: Entry fees will be $6.00 per class for members, $8.00 per class for non-members. Checks returned for NSF are subject to any bank fee.
 
11. Show Numbers: You will be issued a permanent number for the show season when you submit your Horse/Exhibitor Information form. This will be your permanent number for the entire year.
 
12.   Exhibitor Age: For show purposes, the age of the exhibitor as of January 1 shall be maintained throughout the year.
 
13. Horse/Donkey Age: On January 1 the horse/donkey will be considered the age they will turn that year. For example, if the horse/donkey was born on July 1, 2008, then they will be considered a yearling as of January 1, 2009 and will be a 2 yr. old as of January 1, 2010.
 
14.  Nominations: You must nominate each horse (donkey)/exhibitor combination to accumulate points for year end awards.      No points will be credited until horse (donkey)/exhibitor has completed the nomination form along with correct nomination fee. The nomination fee is $7.00 per horse (donkey)/exhibitor combination.  That will sign that horse (donkey)/exhibitor combination up for points in all classes for the rest of the year. The horse/donkey's name on the nomination form and the horse/donkey's name used for show entry registration must be the same. Failure to do so may result in points not being credited towards year-end awards.
  
 
15. For those who nominated, year-end awards will be awarded to Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, third and fourth place finishes in every class.
 
16. Points: Points will be earned and accumulated, by any horse/exhibitor combination nominated, from all the shows for all the classes they enter. Points will be earned as follows:
1st-6 points   2nd-5 points 3rd-4 points 4th-3 points 5th-2 points 6th-1 point
 
17. Shows: Before you leave from the show, please make sure the area around you is clean.
 
18. There will be a 2 minute gate call for all classes. There will be specified breaks before some classes, such as driving, costume class, or any classes we feel everyone will need extra time. If you think you need more than 2 minutes before a certain class for tack change, please make the announcer aware of the fact.
 
19. No entering the ring once the class has started.

20.  You need to register class’s at least two classes before that class begins.
 
21. Scratched classes must be made two classes before entered class unless there is an emergency.
 
22. Special Awards: Will be awarded for Grand Champion and Reserve Champion for the Halter Classes. Supreme Halter Horse will receive a special award at each show.
 
23. Day End Awards will be given for: High Point Adult Performance, High Point Youth Performance, High Point Green Horse, and High Point Donkey/Mule
 
24. Attire: Exhibitors must be correctly attired for their classes. T-Shirts, shorts, tank tops, open toe shoes and flip flops are not permitted.
 
25. Showmanship classes require hats, boots, long sleeve shirts or jackets, and gloves.

26. Pointed Classes & Class Descriptions: For further details of each class that are not detailed in these rules refer to the AMHR Rule Book.
 
27. Halter: Open to mares, geldings and stallions. Ages from weanling, yearling, two-year olds and aged horses/donkeys. To be shown in hand and be evaluated at the walk and trot. Entries are judged on type, conformation, quality, substance and soundness.
 
28. Grand Champion and Reserve Champion are chose from the first and second place winners in the weanling, yearling, two-year olds and aged class winners in the same sex classes.
 
29. Supreme Champion is chosen from the Grand Champion mare, gelding and stallion.
 
30. Multi-Colored Class: Open to all horses that are pinto and appaloosa horses only. Judged 100% on color.
 
31. Solid-Colored Class: Open to all horses other than pinto and appaloosas. Judged 100% on color.
 
32.  Hunter: Horses need to be at least 3 yrs. old or older to enter any jumping classes. Horses to jump a course of at least five jumps. To be judged on style, manners and way of going with preference given to those horses who cover the course at an even pace, with free flowing strides, as in a brisk trot or canter, but must maintain same gait throughout the entire course.            Causes for elimination: 3 refusals; off course; crossing your own path (as in circling between fences, not as in retaking a fence from a refusal); fall of horse or exhibitor; jumping of obstacle by exhibitor; carrying a whip; and unsound horse.
 
33. Jumper: Horses to jump a course of four to six jumps. To be judged on accumulated faults only, unless there is a tie, which case there will be a jump-off.
   Faults: 
  a. Knockdowns-4 faults per jump               
  b. Refusals (stopping at an obstacle without knocking it down and without backing, followed by jumping from a standstill is not penalized. However if the halt continues or if the horse backs even a single step, side steps or circles to retake the fence, a refusal is incurred):  1st Resfusal-4 faults, 2nd refusal-4 faults, 3rd refusal-disqualification             
  c. Circling-any form of circle or circles whereby the horse crosses its original track between two consecutive obstacles, stops advancing toward the next obstacle, except to retake an obstacle after disobedience. Crossing your own path (i.e. circling between fences, NOT retaking a fence from a refusal)-3 faults
   Elimination: You will be eliminated if you have 3 refusals, are off course, or if the horse or exhibitor falls down.
 
34. Jump-Off:  All ties in a Jumper class must be jumped off. The jump-off will be held over the original course. The height of the jumps shall be increased not less than 1 inch and not more than 6 inches. The jump-off will be timed by a stopwatch and the horse that has the fastest time and the fewest faults in the jump-off will be declared the winner.
 
35. Green Horse Division: The purpose of green horse division is to allow a horse to compete on an entry-level field with horses of the same level of experience. These classes should be judged according to the purpose of its intent.
 
36.  A Green Horse cannot cross enter into any other performance class.
 
38. Green Horse is open to horses 3 & 4 year olds of age with 1st and 2nd year of showing in a performance class. Classes include Trail, Hunter, Jumper, Country Pleasure Driving, Driving Obstacle and Versatility.
 
39. Country Pleasure Driving: To be shown both ways of the arena at a walk, country pleasure trot and extended trot. To stand quietly and rein back. To be judged 60% on performance, manners and way of going. 30% on condition, fit and appropriateness of harness, attire and overall impression. Horses need to be 3 yrs. old or older to be driven. Certified ASTM/SEI headgear must be worn by youth in all driving or riding classes.
 
40. There will be a 5 minute warm-up allowed for all driving classes. Youth exhibitors must wear a safety helmet and are allowed to have another person in the cart with them. Headers are required in youth driving class. Headers are to enter the ring when the line-up is called, may assist in setting up the animal and then step back two paces where they are to remain, except in an emergency, until the Judge's card is turned in.
 
41. Leadline: Open to horses 38" and under. Horse need to be 3 years or older. Riders to be 7 years and younger. Certified ASTM/SEI headgear MUST be worn by youth in all riding or driving classes. Horses to be led both ways of the ring, to line up and stand quietly. To be judged on rider's ability to handle and aid the horse. Mares and Geldings only. Stallions are NOT permitted in the class. Leaders must be 16 years of age or older. Commences needs to be utilized when horse and riders are paired for this class. Weight and size for rider and horse need to be considered.
 
42. Trail: Open to horses at least one year of age or older. Class will be judged 100% on manners of the horse's performance through the course. Being off course or refusal of 3 obstacles will result in elimination.
 
43. Driving Obstacle: Open to horses three years of age and older. Class will be judged 100% on the manner of the horse's performance through the course. Being off course or refusal of 3 obstacles will result in elimination.
 
44. No exhibitor is permitted to carry any pattern inside of the show ring.
 
45. Barrel Race Driving: Horse cannot exceed an extended trot. This is a timed class.  Horses that knock a barrel down are penalized 5 seconds. Eliminations are: Traveling outside course pattern.

46. Showmanship: In this class the exhibitor is the only one being judged. The horse is merely used as a prop. The exhibitor is showing their ability to show their horse. The horse and the exhibitor must have a neat and clean appearance. Suitable attire for Showmanship: hats, boots, long sleeve shirts and gloves are required.
 
47. Trick Class: Once you get started, you will have a maximum of 6 minutes to show tricks to the judge. You will be allowed to use another attendant, another animal, props, and treats if needed. If you have a script and need someone to read it over the loudspeaker, you need to have someone come to the booth to do that. You will be judged on originality and execution of the tricks. SAFETY IS A MUST No tricks are allowed that would put the horse or exhibitor in danger.
 
48. Costume Class: To be judged 75% on originality of costume and 25% on presentation. Certified headgear must be worn if riding or driving. Extra handlers are permitted. Costumes must be considered safe.

49.  Versatility: The horse to be shown as a driving horse, shown in halter and shown in hunter in that order. Horses do not leave the arena between divisions. Once the horses are lined up after driving, headers are allowed in to assist in the 2 minute un tacking and grooming for the rest of the class. At the end of the 2 minute period, headers shall leave the arena with the carts and all tack, and horses are then asked to follow the direction of the Ring Steward.
  
51. Any exhibitor that requires preferred parking for any show they are required to make it known to the show committee prior to the show.
 
52. Any class that has 15 exhibitors is eligible for a payback. Paybacks are as follows 1st place $10.00, 2nd place $ 8.00, 3rd Place $ 6.00, and 4th Place $ 5.00.
